Psalm 119 – Day 13

ח Heth

Psalm 119:57-60

You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.

The Thought

David makes here another declaration of his love for the Lord, and reminds God of the commitment he has personally made to follow His directions.

The expression sought your face is not one we use too often in modern day meetings and prayers, but it is a good thing to do.

If we seek His face, then we are really looking for a closer relationship with our Maker. We want to be close, and hear what His thoughts are, to find His solutions to whatever problems we are facing personally as well as the world situation.

The same expression was used by The Lord Himself a generation later when David’s son Solomon dedicated the new temple in Jerusalem. Once the construction was complete The Lord appeared to Solomon and said If My people who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Action

Spend some time today seeking God’s face and listening for His voice. He is the only One who knows the solutions to whatever problems we have personally, in our local communities and in the wider world.

Next month there will be presidential elections in the USA, pray for God’s choice for this very strategic position, that the appointed president would seek the Lord as did David and his son.

Read 2 Chronicles 7 and hear what God said to Solomon. Relate those promises to your life today, and adapt them to fit into your own situation.
