Psalm 119 – Day 12

Psalm 119:53-56

Indignation grips me because of the wicked who have forsaken your law. Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. In the night, Lord, I remember your name, that I may keep your law. This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.

The Thought

We can imagine David understanding the laws of God well, having spent so much time developing his relationship with the Creator, who is always more ready to talk to us than we are to Him. David would see the practical applications of the Ten Commandments all around him.

He knew what was right and wrong, and he was indignant about those who did not keep God’s laws!

In the New Testament we read that Jesus gave His followers A new command (John 13:34). They were to love one another as He had loved them. When Jesus said that, His listeners had no idea what that would mean: that He would lay down His life for them!

Much later in his life, John the disciple wrote letters to the churches he was responsible for, and focussed on the new command (1 John 2:7-8 & 2 John 1:5).

We are all called to love others, no matter who, and sometimes we must remind ourselves that God loves them and Jesus died for them whatever their lifestyle and attitude today.

Action

Ask yourself today how you feel about people who blatantly disobey what God laid down as rules for His people. Are you concerned enough to pray for them? Or do you prefer not to get too involved in the lives of others, thinking that their lives are their affairs and not yours?
