The Soul and the Spirit – Day 28

Romans 8:14

Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

The Thought

We all, as believers, have been recruited into the family business! The aim of that business is to extend the Kingdom of God on the earth. Remember that Jesus said the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing (John 5:19). That is very good advice for us too, and many of us follow that advice as much as we are able, but the problem we all have is that we live in a fallen world, and not one of us has the exact vision of the Father, or the relationship with Him that Jesus had. But as new recruits, we are learning!

The way to learn is always to follow an expert! As children of God we should be living as Jesus did. Of course that does not mean wearing sandals and a long robe, but showing the world our inheritance through the way we think and the decisions we make.

Remember that later in this chapter St. Paul tells us that creation waits for the children of God to be revealed (Romans 8:19). Less modern translations of our Bibles use the word sons rather than children in that verse, because in Biblical times sons were the ones who inherited the family business, or learned the trade of their father.

Let’s use our inheritance today. Let us live as the sons of God He is calling us to be.

Action

Praise God that His Spirit is available to lead us 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Read Romans 8 slowly again today and allow it to speak to your spirit.

Pray for a new revelation of what is available to you as a child of God.
