The Last – Day 10
John 11:24
Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
The Thought
Martha and her sister, Mary, appear several times in the gospels, and have been the subject of many sermons, but their brother Lazarus is less mentioned, apart from this chapter where we read that the sisters sent word to Jesus to ask Him to come pray for their sick brother.
The response of Jesus at that moment is interesting! When He heard that Lazarus was sick He stayed where He was two more days (John 11:6). That does not seem logical at all. Why didn’t Jesus rush off saying He would come and pray as soon as possible? That is what we would do, isn’t it?
Jesus was never seen to be in a panic, or rushed. His timing was God’s timing, not mankind’s.
When Jesus was on His way to heal the daughter of Jairus, He was delayed by a woman hoping to be healed, and hoping, too, to not be noticed. Jesus was in no hurry to rush to the bedside of the sick girl, and in fact He arrived at the house too late to heal her, but He did a greater thing. He raised her from the dead (Mark 5:21-43).
Action
Read one of the chapters mentioned, and ask Jesus to increase your faith remembering that He told His followers that we could do what He had done (John 14:12). He even told us in that same verse, that we could do greater things!
Think today about the greater things God could be calling you or your group to do. Does that excite you or scare you?
Pray for the followers of Jesus in your area to do what He has called us to do.
