Separation – Day 4

Genesis 2:22-24

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman’, for she was taken out of man.”
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

The Thought

Here we have a “separation” of woman from man, but with a plan for a re-union. God did this because “It was not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). It still isn’t. Loneliness can be one of the worst states to be in. We are created for family.

The last part of today’s verse, “one flesh” is quoted four times in the New Testament! (Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:8, 1Corinthians 6:16, Ephesians 5:31).

“One flesh” is a spiritual state, as well as a physical one. Happy marriages are made when we find “the one whose rib fits”.

Note also that there is a separating from the parents. Newly married couples need to be left to live their own lives. Yes, parents need to be available as always, to love and support, but too many marriages are put in jeopardy by interfering parents!

In our modern world many attitudes to marriage are changing. The devil is having a lot of amusement seeing even the attitude of some churches change to fit the modern ideas. Biblical standards don’t change. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, (Hebrews 13:8) and it is the duty of His church to uphold the Truths we read in His Word.

Action

Praise God for His plan for marriage and families. Praise Him today for the happy successful families you know.

Pray for those marriages you know that are struggling at the moment.

Pray also for any you know who are contemplating marriage.
