Mountains – Day 6

Mark 9:1-2

He said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come in power”. After six days, Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There He was transfigured before them.

The Thought

In the previous chapter Jesus seemed to be talking in riddles! “If you lose your life you will gain it!” (Mark 8:35) and the consequences of being “ashamed” of Jesus and His words. (Mark 8:38) But the opening of chapter 9 seems to be a real encouragement to the listeners to believe that the powerful kingdom of God was about to arrive. And it did! With the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, but that was not what the disciples imagined would happen.

Neither could they have imagined meeting Moses and Elijah just a few days later when they went mountain climbing again with Jesus. What do you suppose they talked about on the way? Did they dare to ask where they were going or why they had to climb? If the Bible refers to a mountain as high, we can imagine that was not just a hill!

There these three faithful men saw the evidence of the power of God as they had never seen it before.

Action

Have you ever experienced something God has promised you, but that didn’t happen at all in the way that you expected it?

Are you expecting God to do anything for you right now? I have, many times. In my book “Transported by The Lion of Judah” I tell of believing the Lord for healing and instead I got to a point of death, was hospitalised in an emergency, but then had a series of the most amazing visions that changed my life much more than any miracle that I could have imagined would have.

Read on in Mark 9 today and dare to tell Jesus that you are ready to be surprised by Him.
