Mountains – Day 15

All of life is a test of our faith, whether we realise it or not. The choice to be scrupulously honest is always before us, and there are many moments when we must remember that the eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Luke 22:39-43

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
An angel from Heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him.

The Thought

The mount of Olives is one we hear little about, except that it was the site of Jesus’ last battle with the enemy, and perhaps with Himself as well, as He submitted to His Father’s will and agreed to die in your place and in my place.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. – Romans 3:23-24

What an amazing promise that is!

None of us on earth have ever had to face such a challenge as Jesus did that day on that mountain. Although many of us will have had difficult decisions to make, some of which will have been a test of our faith.

In fact all of life is a test of our faith, whether we realise it or not. The choice to be scrupulously honest is always before us, and there are many moments when we must remember that the eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good (Proverbs 15:3).

Action

Ask yourself today how scrupulously honest you are.

Ask God to reveal times He has forgiven you for any failures that you have forgotten or tried to ignore.

Remember that The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love. That verse is quoted in 3 psalms, and is actually the way The Lord described Himself to Moses when He met with him on the top of Mount Sinai. (Exodus 34:6 also in Numbers 14:18, Nehemiah 9:17 and psalms 86:15, 103:8, and 145:8.)
