Jude – Day 4

I had a totally different idea of what I wanted to study, this month, but it was not coming together. After days of frustration I asked the Lord. He suggested Jude, a book I did not know well! I have never heard a sermon based on any verse from Jude!

Jude 3

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.

The Thought

This verse speaks to me today. I had a totally different idea of what I wanted to study, this month, but it wasn’t coming together. After two days of frustration I asked the Lord. He suggested Jude, a book I did not know well! Praise God that no matter how long we have been believers, we always have new things to learn! I have never, in my seventy plus years of church-attending, heard a sermon (that I remember!) based on any verse from Jude!

Right from the beginning of the Christian era there was a need to contend for the faith, as Jude encourages in this verse, because the enemy was always determined to distort The Truth, suggesting that God didn’t really mean what He had said…!

“Did God REALLY say, you must not eat of any the tree in the garden?” Genesis 3:1

How important it is to know what God REALLY says in His word about ordinary life.

The two commandments that Jesus gave us to sum up Exodus 20 are a good place to start. The Pharisees were trying constantly to trap Jesus, and one of their “experts” in the law went to ask which was the most important commandment.

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40).

Action

As you go through your day today think about these commandments, and grade your life as a Christian! Loving your neighbour is reasonably easy for most of us, but loving that person in the same way that we love ourselves is much more difficult!
