Jude – Day 20

Do you know people who fit this description? Those who are always ready to criticise, but deny that it is criticism? They will say it is not fault finding, but it is frustration at people not doing things correctly, or not taking the time to get things right!

Jude 16

These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

The Thought

Do you know people who fit this description? Those who are always ready to criticise, but deny that it is criticism? They will say it is not fault finding, but it is frustration at people not doing things correctly, or not taking the time to get things right!

Many of those people are genuine, and are just stating what is true, but if the root of what they say is because of jealousy, a critical spirit or an attempt at self promotion, then there is a serious problem with that individual. That’s the type of person Jude was talking about here.

He is obviously fed up with “church goers” who were not living a real christian life. And of course in those days there were no churches to “go to”. But non-believers often went to hear what was being said at Christian gatherings, often for very good reasons, but they were not prepared to make a commitment or do what Jesus asks.

The aim of each church group should be to have regular attendees advance in their faith, and do more of what Jesus told us all to do.

When Jesus sent out His first disciples He gave them very specific orders: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Jesus’ desire and command to His followers hasn’t changed.

Action

Pray for each person in your church group or study group, that they would understand what it means to be a christian, and they would take up the challenge that Jesus gave us to go and do what He did.

Challenge yourself to improve in what you do for Him. Most of us can do more than we do. I am speaking to myself as I write!
