Jude – Day 2

The short letter of Jude is not written to correct or teach us, but to encourage us to keep going. The early disciples could not have imagined that it would be more than 2000 years before Jesus returned to finish what He had started. They thought it would be sooner.

Jude 1

Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

The Thought

Jude’s short letter is not written to correct or teach us, but to encourage us to keep going. The early disciples could not have imagined that it would be more than 2000 years before Jesus returned to finish what He had started. They thought the end would be soon after Jesus left the earth. It took them a long time to understand His last message given for us in Acts 1:8. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

After being filled with Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the disciples understood and went on to fulfil their calling. They shared their faith in many countries, and obeyed Jesus’ command to heal the sick, cast out demons and baptise new believers.

But there are still unreached people groups in the world, and many areas where Christianity is not known. Sadly, there are also many churches who don’t teach the full message, ignoring much of what was preached by Jesus.

The rest of Jude’s letter is reminding us of this great need to be in “Holy” groups which speak the truth, not allowing wrong teachings.

Remember that Jesus never told us to build churches. He said “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). He was not talking about building a physical church on Peter the man or the rock. Rather He was referring to the rock of truth that Peter had just declared. “You are the Messiah, the Son of The Living God” (Matthew 16:16).

Action

Pray for your home church or study group today pray that you will all teach, and be taught the full truth of Jesus who is “The Truth” (John 14:6).
