Jude – Day 19
The part of the book of Enoch quoted for us by Jude suggests it was included in the Hebrew scriptures. Enoch obviously had visions of the end times, and as I read this verse I am aware that there are many ungodly people planning horrific things in our world today.
Jude 14-15
Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of His holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
The Thought
There are two men called Enoch in the book of Genesis. The first is Adam’s grandson born to Cain (Genesis 4:17), and the second is in the family of Seth, Adam’s third son. The name “Enoch” means dedicated or trained, and we can imagine that the one referred to by Jude is Seth’s descendant who didn’t die!! And Enoch walked with God, and he was no more because God took him away (Genesis 5:24).
He was 365 years old by the time he died. We must remember that the hold of sin on the earth was not as great in those days as it is today, and people lived much longer! Enoch’s son was Methuselah who lived to be 969 (Genesis 5:27)! The oldest person named in the Bible.
The prophetic word cited above by Jude can be found in the Book of Enoch. This ancient book was a part of the Dead Sea Scrolls. More information can be found here.
The part of Enoch’s book quoted for us by Jude suggests that it was included in the Hebrew scriptures. Enoch obviously had visions of the end times, and as I read this verse I am aware that there are many ungodly people planning horrific things in our world today. Jesus died for each one. He doesn’t want anybody to be lost. He wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4).
Action
Think today about the truth of Jude verse 14 and pray for everyone you see today whether in the flesh or via technology that they will meet Jesus before it is too late.
