Jude – Day 12

How easy it is to criticise things we do not understand. Most of us are guilty of that at some time. Many churches are guilty of finding fault with other types of church. Often the criticism comes from people who have never really associated with that church or its members!

Jude 10

Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct — as irrational animals do — will destroy them.

The Thought

How easy it is to criticise things we don’t understand. Most of us are guilty of that at some time in our lives. Many church denominations are guilty of finding fault with other types of church. Often the criticism comes from people who have never really associated with that church or its members!

The Lord loves variety, and His word tells us that He is building His church (Matthew 16:18). Let’s stop getting in His way. At the end of time the church could well look very different to what we imagine today. And of course we must remember that the Church is not the building, but it is the company of people who believe in Jesus, and are called to manage the world for Him. The Greek word for “church” is “ecclesia” meaning “the called out ones” and was used for group management.

Interestingly, Peter wrote something in the second chapter of his second epistle that shares the same sentiments as Jude – These people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed. (2 Peter 2:12).

Later, Peter tells us that it’s better to not have known the truth, than to know it and then have corrupted ideas about it (2 Peter 2:20).

It must have been very hard for the first disciples to go out “into all the world” and work to spread the good news of Jesus, only to find that the groups that had begun were being corrupted by people from satan’s camp.

Action

Read 2Peter 2 today and feel Peter’s emotions, his disappointment, his anger and frustration.

Pray today for your church group to stay faithful to Biblical teaching. Pray too for the leaders to be constantly inspired by Holy Spirit.
