Jonah – Day 21
Prayer works. Only at the end of time will we realise how much disaster and destruction God has saved us from as a result of prayer. Think about how many near misses you might have had. Think of yourself and others and rejoice that God has brought you this far.
Jonah 3:10
When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction He had threatened.
The Thought
The King of Nineveh had his prayers answered by the God he had heard was compassionate. God had a plan for the people of the city of Nineveh, and He needed them to acknowledge His sovereignty, so that He could complete His plans.
That same Almighty God has a plan for the people of your city too. He is just waiting for them to repent and turn to Him. Repentance works. Prayer works. We must pray for the places we live in, for the leaders of our towns and cities, and for all the activities that go on there.
Only at the end of time will we realise how much disaster and destruction God has saved us from as a result of prayer. Think for a moment about how many near misses you might have had. How much have you travelled without being in an accident? Are there potentially dangerous places you have visited? How many epidemics have you lived through? How often have you crossed a dangerous road and got safely to the other side?
Think of yourself and those you care for and rejoice that God has brought you this far. These things do not happen by chance, they happen because of a compassionate God that has a plan for you and sends His angels to take care of each one of us.
Action
Praise Him for the protection He has given you in the past. Praise Him for the future He has planned for you.
Read Psalm 91 and thank God for sheltering you under the shadow of His wing.
Pray that you will recognize the mercy and compassion of your Heavenly Father in your daily life.
