Jonah – Day 14
Often salvation from the Lord does not look like we expect it to. For Jonah, the way of being rescued from the sea was to be swallowed by the whale. Has the Lord ever rescued you from one problem only for you to find yourself in a different, bigger problem?
Jonah 2:9
But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD.
The Thought
Can you make this same proclamation? Can you say today, in the midst of whatever problems you might be facing, that your salvation will come from the Lord? Often the Lord’s salvation doesn’t look like we expect it to. For Jonah, the way of being rescued from the sea was to be swallowed by the whale.
Has the Lord ever rescued you from one problem only for you to find yourself in a different problem, maybe a bigger one? Be encouraged that He is still the God who saves.
In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he tells the church there to protect themselves with the armour of God. He talks of salvation as a helmet (Ephesians 6:17). Later in his first letter to the Thessalonians, he talks of the hope of salvation as a helmet (1Thessalonians 5:8).
That “helmet” protects our brain, our thinking process and much more. We must learn to think more like Jesus did, and like Peter did after the day of Pentecost.
In one of Peter’s Spirit filled messages we read of him saying to the Jewish leaders that Jesus is the only Saviour. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12).
Action
Read Acts 4 and remember that Peter was a frightened fisherman until Jesus took him and made a disciple of him. He was one who denied the Lord. But then Holy Spirit changed him dramatically.
Pray for anyone you know who seems to be overwhelmed with problems.
Praise God that He is the Lord of Salvation. He uses every situation to complete His plan of salvation for our lives.
