Followers of Jesus – Day 3
If we are believers, then we are a part of the body of Christ on the earth. We must consequently do our part. Christianity is a living active thing and not a faith that demands obedience in church attendance, but obedience in doing what Jesus did. He is our example.
1 Corinthians 12:30
Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
The Thought
The answer to these questions is obviously “NO.” All believers do not do all the things listed in this chapter. Sadly many believers do not do any of them. One of the keys to understanding could be an earlier verse where we read “Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)
If we are believers, then we are a part of the body of Christ on the earth. We must consequently do our part. Christianity is a living active thing and not a faith that demands obedience in church attendance, but obedience in doing what Jesus did. He is our example. Attending church and being amongst other believers is good, and encourages us to do our part; that means praying for the sick, raising the dead etcetera!
Raising the dead seems a bit daunting for most of us, but what if we think of the spiritually dead, rather than the physically dead. There are many of those people living in our neighbourhoods, and they need us to witness to them, not necessarily in preaching, but in loving actions.
Action
Read chapters 12 & 13 of 1 Corinthians.
Ask yourself today what your part is in being The Body of Christ on the earth.
