ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?

A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ as portrayed in the Bible. That is:

One Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

The Nicene Creed

Ask yourself the question again, “Are you a Christian”?

If you cannot give an unqualified “yes” to this question, then you can go no further in this study until you have clarified your beliefs by talking to an elder in the church, or by reading through one of the gospels and asking yourself seriously if you believe what you have read. If you believe what you read then you can talk to Jesus, and tell Him that you want Him in your life. Ask for His forgiveness and then read on with enthusiasm.

A Christian is someone who knows he/she is loved by God and accepts Jesus’ crucifixion as payment for all his/her own personal sins. A Christian is someone who follows Jesus by trying to live by His standards, and obeying His commands.

  • Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

How do you rate in obedience to this command?

Write your comments below.

Look closely at this passage, which is the closing paragraph of Matthew’s gospel.

What is the difference between teaching the commands, (as much of the church has done for many years) and teaching obedience to them?
