The Spiritual Blessings – Day 5

The grace he had given us in his dear Son. Once we become a child of God, He begins the work of making us more like Him. It is a slow process, many of us have much to un-learn from earthly circumstances. His grace will complete that work in us.

Ephesians 1:6

The Thought

Grace is one of those Christian words that is used a lot but often not explained. What does it mean to receive God’s grace? The first use of the word grace in the New Testament is in a description of Jesus when we read that “The child was full of wisdom and the grace of God was on Him” (Luke 2:40). He does sound like the perfect child and He was!

One of the dictionary definitions for Grace reads: “the quality of moving in a smooth, relaxed and attractive way”. Another says “a willingness to be fair and honest”. Jesus definitely had those qualities, and we can recognise that it was because he was totally sure of who He was. He never went through an identity crisis, as many of us do.

Once we become a child of Father God, He begins the work of making us more like Him. It is often a slow process, and many of us have much to un-learn from difficult earthly circumstances that we have lived through. His grace will complete that work in us.

His grace is given to us freely, as our verse for today states. It is given in order to change us and to make us more like Jesus. It is a free gift, but it takes an effort on our part to make it active in our lives.

Action

Ask yourself today how willing you are to allow the Lord to change you. We all know we need to grow more like Jesus, but sometimes we are reluctant to change.

Pray for the Lord to help you to be more flexible, more ready to have Him change you. Remember that His aim is to make you more like Jesus, and to reflect the family likeness.

Praise Him for all He is doing in your life.
