Renewing the Mind – Day 7

Romans 12:2

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The Thought

Back to our key verse for this month.

The Lord never gives us instruction without telling us how to fulfill what He is asking. The way to be transformed is in our thinking. We have to stop thinking and reacting as the world does and think more in the way that God does! That is the only way to obey this command.

When people study any subject to a high level, they research and read and absorb all the information on that subject. They become disciples of the great men in their field. If you ask a high level student for his opinion on something, they will speak out of their studious mind. They will tell you for example what Descartes said, or what Shakespeare wrote. Consequently, their minds have been renewed to think like the people they have studied. We must do the same!

But that doesn’t mean looking for what theologians have said in the past, or even the present. It means going higher than that. Today we have God’s Word available in many forms. Ask yourself how much you read it. And if you read it regularly, do you just read it with your eyes, or with your spirit and your mind?

Action

Matthew chapters 5-7 are known as “The sermon on the mount” and are basically a teaching of Jesus on how to live our lives today. Take time to read them slowly and meditate on what He says.

Pray for the discipline to read and absorb all that Jesus means in the sermon on the mount, and ask Him to help you apply those principles to your daily life.

Pray for His words to be on your tongue and in your mind as you go through your day today.
