Renewing the Mind – Day 28

1 Peter 1:13

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

The Thought

The peace of God, which we looked at briefly yesterday, does not imply sitting doing nothing. It is a peace which invades our personality and it is something we can carry through all that we do.

Peter suggests in this verse that preparing our minds for action means being self controlled. Being self controlled about our thought life is not always easy. For many of us, our thoughts have a way of wandering off down pointless routes that lead nowhere. For others our thoughts respond quickly in anger and ideas of revenge or of trying to get our own points across.

We must bring all those thoughts back to Biblical truths.

The main Biblical truth is that Jesus is with us ALWAYS (Matthew 28:20), He knows what we are trying to do, thinking about and worrying over. He hears every one of our conversations. All of us would benefit if we asked His advice more often or more regularly during the day.

Faith in Jesus demands action, it means that we say and do what Jesus said and did. His peace is found in obeying His commands; in being in the right place at the right time, saying the right things and doing the right things, prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). As our minds are renewed, we will find it progressively easier to do this.

Action

Pray that you will say what Jesus wants you to say in all your conversations today.

Praise Him as you begin afresh to do the works He has prepared in advance for you to do.

Praise Him that you are learning to follow Him more closely.
