Renewing the Mind – Day 25

Luke 24:45

Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

The Thought

How wonderful it must have been to have Jesus explain the scriptures. No confusion, no personal opinions affected by hurts in His past, just pure unadulterated truth! Jesus knew the scriptures better than anyone else ever has or ever will.

Jesus was the “surgeon” who operated on the minds of His disciples so that they worked with Him and for Him with renewed minds. That’s what He wants to do with us through this study.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). If we are prepared to sit at His feet and listen and spend time getting to know Him, we too can hear the scriptures explained by Him. The Holy Spirit is waiting to spend time with us and answer our questions. He is the comforter who will teach us all things (John 14:26).

In Luke 24:46 (the verse following the one for today), we read that Jesus said to his listeners “this is what is written”. How often have I wished that Jesus would sit by me and explain what is written in my Bible, but I have discovered through the last 40 years that He wants to do that just as much as I have wanted Him to. It just takes patience and determination on my part.

During that time I have learned to ask Him questions and wait for the answer. I have learned to look up cross references and do extensive word searches. It takes time but it is worth the effort.

Action

Pray today that the Holy Spirit will open your mind to a fresh understanding of Biblical Truths.

Imagine yourself like one of the first disciples sitting at the feet of their master.

Praise God for the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life, and for all that He is teaching you.
