Psalm 23 – Day 15

Matthew 28:20

I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

The Thought

We closed yesterday with this closing sentence of Matthew’s gospel and it is such a rich expression worth much further study, so let’s think today about what it really means to have Jesus with us 24/7.

Few of us stay aware of that thought too long. We expect Jesus to be with us in the “holy” moments: when we are praying or reading His word or a good christian book, but “always” is much more than that.

We want Him to be there in the hard times, the difficult moments, the stressful situations, and He is, but He is there too when we don’t remember Him; when everything goes according to our plans, when life seems good, when we feel satisfied.

He is there when we don’t have time to think. He knows if we are being hurt or abused, He hears when we have suicidal thoughts, or ideas for vengeance! He sympathises and can show us the way out when we don’t know where to turn.

In Moses’ farewell speech to the people he had led for forty years we read “Be strong and courageous… The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)

This expression from Moses is quoted in the last chapter of the New Testament book of Hebrews where we read: Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6

Action

Be happy today that God has not changed His mind, and rejoice in His presence.

Remind yourself throughout the day that He is with you.
