Mountains – Day 20

Psalm 90:1-2

Lord You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.

The Thought

This psalm is accredited to Moses who led the Israelites through the wilderness for what was a very long 40 years. It must have seemed like several “generations”, and before the end of the long trek “round the mountain” it was! In fact at one point God said to them

“You have stayed long enough on this mountain. Break camp and advance” (Deuteronomy 1:6).

In the following chapter God said the same thing! “You have made your way around this hill country long enough, now turn north.” (Deuteronomy 2:3).

Could He be saying that to us today?

Moses was blessed by literally having conversations with God on the mountain which we have mentioned on the last 2 days. What hard work he did and what responsibility he carried! But his relationship with God was one which can be envied and has been experienced by very few human beings.

This psalm of praise expresses Moses’ awe of God the creator, hence the expression Before the mountains were born and also his faith in the God of the future as he prays for the next generations and the continuation of The Lord’s guidance for all that must happen for His plans in the future.

Action

Read Psalm 90 today and be blessed as you praise God for the wonders of His creation.

Pray for future generations of your family to prosper and to stay faithful to the Lord.

We are not sure how many future generations there will be before the Lord returns, so pray also for your extended family, friends and neighbours that they will rejoice in God the Father who has called them to be alive at such a time as this (Esther 4:14).
