Mountains – Day 18

Exodus 19:11-13

Be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, “Be careful that you do not approach the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain is to be put to death. They are to be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on them.”

The Thought

God is a Holy God. That means He has no faults, no sin. He is 100% pure; something we humans cannot imagine. The priest and prophet Isaiah had a life changing vision of the Lord when he saw seraphim (angelic beings) calling to one another, “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord Almighty” (Isaiah 6:3). And at the end of the Bible we read of John’s vision when “living creatures” were singing the same thing, (Revelation 4:8).

If the people in the Exodus had gone near to the mountain, they would have died. We can imagine that most of them were too scared to go anywhere near the mountain. But there would be many different sentiments on this day. Some wanted to go near enough to really see what was happening. Others were afraid to go anywhere near anything so supernatural. I’m guessing too that there were hundreds hovering between those two opinions.

Life is much the same today. Many who have heard the voice of God or had visions are very comfortable with the supernatural. Others are very frightened of anything “spiritual” even within Christianity.

Action

Ask yourself today if you would have been one who went forward to see what was happening on that mountain, or if you are one who obeys the rules.

Think about the supernatural happenings in your church. Pray for more.

Pray for more evidence of Holy Spirit in your personal life.
