A Living Sacrifice – Day 31

Romans 12:21

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The Thought

This verse basically sums up the whole chapter that we have been studying this month. It’s the message that Paul was trying to get across about being a Living Sacrifice.

It is the reason Jesus came:- to destroy the works of the devil, and He asks us to do what He did. In doing good to others, He reminded His listeners of the commandment to think of others before themselves.

That seems to be a difficult lesson to learn at any age!

We must understand that both Jesus and Paul are asking us not just to forgive, but to bless. To do something good for those we find difficult.

We cannot all be politicians making laws to encourage good behaviour, and trying to persuade our countrymen that they must treat others well and not be selfish. But we can all choose to not get offended, to be aware of our own neighbourhood, of those working in the same company, and our own families. Too many families have members who don’t speak to others because of old family feuds, or recent disagreements. The healing in those cases must start with much prayer and it is a good idea to ask others to pray with you and for you in order to avoid a worsening situation.

Often the Lord will reveal some difficulty in the life of the difficult person and praying around that can help enormously.

Often people are difficult because they are under stress in their home situation. Trying to get alongside them can help too.

Action

Pray once more today for those people you know that you wouldn’t choose as friends. Ask Jesus to put oil on their hurts and bring the right people around them to help heal them. Be prepared for it to be you!

Praise God for all we have read and prayed together this month.
