Jude – Day 8

Jude 6

And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling – these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

The Thought

We are looking once more at this verse, because we didn’t think too much yesterday about these angels who abandoned their proper dwelling. They should have stayed in Heaven, which is not a small place, it is vast. They came to earth and visited the “daughters of men” (Genesis 6:1-4). Much of the mythology of the world comes from those times. The angels must have known where the limits of their territory were. But just like many of us, they took a peek at what was beyond their limits. Of course “the grass is always greener on the other side” and we humans often desire what is not ours. But we don’t expect that of angels.

How many of us as children wanted something others had, things which seemed, bigger, better, or more tasty than what we had ourselves?

One of the saddest verses in the Bible is Genesis 6:6: The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and His heart was deeply troubled.

In earthly terms, the plan for Noah’s ark began that day, but maybe The All Seeing God had seen into the future and already prepared for the ark and the flood.

Praise God for Noah, but how sad that in just a few generations mankind had become so corrupt that they had to be destroyed.

Action

Read Genesis 6 today and imagine the sadness God felt when things went so wrong, even though He knew it would happen, and had already prepared the answer. Thank Him for Noah who was obedient.

Praise God that He has prepared a judgement day when all beings, human and angelic will be judged. Praise Jesus that He died for our sins so that we don’t have to.
