Jonah – Day 18

Jonah 3:5-6

The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.

The Thought

What a wonderful picture of repentance this is. Even the king was dressed in sackcloth and went to sit in the dust, repenting for himself and for his people. The people in his court would have no choice but to do the same!

God did exactly what Jonah expected!! That was why he had run the other way!

The Spirit of God had gone before His chosen prophet and prepared the hearts of the people to receive His message given by the now obedient, reluctant Jonah. God is still doing that same thing today. He is using reluctant prophets, as well as many who are confident and experienced, to say that all will be well if people turn to The Lord Almighty!

The world needs that message. So many people are confused and worried by the world situation. We have leaked viruses, conflicting news stories, vaccinations which have frightening side-effects, threats of shortages of essential commodities, financial crises as well as “wars and rumours of wars”! (Matthew 24:6 & Mark 13:7).

As we move out and are obedient to share our faith with others, and say what the Lord gives us to say, so we will see dramatic conversions, of individuals, and possibly, like Nineveh, of entire communities.

Action

Praise God that He desires to see whole cities turning to Him. Praise Him that nothing is impossible for Him.

Pray for the leaders and the people in your town or community to have their hearts prepared to receive God’s word.

Read Matthew 24 or Mark 13 and be encouraged, “the end is still to come!”
