Habakkuk – Day 3

Habakkuk 1:5-7

Look at the nations and watch — and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own. They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honour.

The Thought

In my Bible these verses are titled “the Lord’s answer”. I am not sure at all that it was the answer Habakkuk expected, or wanted to hear. God was raising up the Babylonians!! The people who had had generations of conflict with the Jewish people! And it is clear that God wasn’t making a mistake! He NEVER makes mistakes. He Himself describes them as ruthless, impetuous, feared and dreaded, and more! But He was using them to teach Israel and Judah a lesson!

Some historical background might be helpful here. The kings of Judah were no longer following the Lord and sadly it is often recorded that they did evil in the eyes of the Lord (2 Kings 23:32 & 37) This was around the year 605BC when God used Nebuchadnezzar to teach the people of Judah a lesson!

As I write this in early April 2022 I have to ask myself the question “Could God be using the Russia / Ukraine situation to teach the rest of the world a lesson?” Only He has the answer to that, but I am following closely the order from God at the beginning of the verse for today:- Look at the nations and watch.

Interesting!

Action

Praise God today that He still sees EVERYTHING that goes on in the world and beyond. He knows satan’s plans, and He knows the answers needed. He also answers our prayers in His timing and not ours. Praise Him that He has great plans for the world and for your personal life.
