Habakkuk – Day 9

Habakkuk 2:1

I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what He will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.

The Thought

An alternative translation from the Hebrew for the end of this verse says “what answer I will give (as His spokesman) when I am reproved / rebuked).

We must never think that it is easy to be a prophet of God. It wasn’t always easy in Biblical times, nor is it easy in the midst of our 21st century world. I guess Habakkuk was hearing complaints from lots of people and passing them on to God, and half expecting to hear God’s rebuke.

“Standing at the watch” is the permanent position of a prophet of The Lord, even in our era. There are many today that are using social media to speak out what they believe God is saying.

The image of the “watchman on the tower” in this verse makes me think of a mediaeval castle with soldiers in the highest positions on the towers ready to report on anything that might be happening in the far distance, especially concerning enemy activity.

In Ezekiel 3:17 we read of Ezekiel’s call to be a prophet for his day. Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me.

Action

Pray for the prophets you follow on social media, that they may hear clearly from The Lord, and know what they must do with what they hear.

Pray for more prophetic voices in your local church to hear God’s voice for your community.

Praise God for those who are speaking out the truth today and genuinely guiding others into following the leading of the Lord.
