Habakkuk – Day 31

Habakkuk 3:19

The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.

The Thought

The last verse of this short book is an encouragement from the prophet who has finally taken his eyes off the problems surrounding him. He has got through his complaints and realised once more that our Almighty God, who sees everything and rules supreme, will never leave him or let him down. It is a good verse to learn.

Think for a moment about the deer who are one of the most surefooted animals alive. They can leap on mountainsides that no person would dare to attempt. They do not even watch where their feet are landing, they just do it. Their feet are hard with hooves, protected by design on the day of creation.

The last phrase here has a real spiritual meaning too. The prophets tells us that we can walk, not just the heights of the mountains, but heights in the Spirit when our eyes are opened by Holy Spirit to see what is really happening in the spiritual world.

In 2 Kings 6 we read of God opening the spiritual eyes of His servants and blinding the eyes of the enemy. He is the same God and more than capable of doing the same thing for us today.

Action

Praise God for His creation and the variety of animal life He has made.

Read 2 Kings 6:8-23 and note how God opens the eyes of the servant, and blinds the eyes of the enemy.

Note verse 16 in that story: Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.

Praise God for that truth today, and thank Him for anything He has used in this short prophetic book to encourage you in our readings this month.
