Habakkuk – Day 25

Habakkuk 3:3-6

God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. His splendour was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. Plague went before Him; pestilence followed His steps. He stood, and shook the earth; He looked, and made the nations tremble.
The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills collapsed — but He marches on forever.

The Thought

Yesterday’s reading gave us a rapid short prayer from Habakkuk, but in these following poetic allusions, this prophet turns to his readers reminding us of the amazing things God has done in the past. Teman and Mount Paran referred to here were both in the east suggesting the start of a New Day. These verses are thought to be a reference to the miracles God did through Moses when He visited Pharaoh telling him to let God’s people go free. A New Day would start for them (Exodus 7).

They were also a reminder to his listeners of God’s visitation in the wilderness when there was thunder and lightening and a loud trumpet blast (Exodus 19:16) making everyone in the Israelite camp tremble.

When we are in the midst of problems as Habakkuk was, waiting in expectation for God to do something, to move, to show His power, it is good to remember when He has done that in the past. That’s why we have The Bible, so we can read appropriate passages and be encouraged. The last few words of the verses today are the ones to remember. He marches on forever! God hasn’t changed. He still has His plans for us, our families, our countries and the world.

Action

Read Exodus 3 and be amazed at what God told Moses He would do through him.

Think today about things God has done in the past and rejoice that He is the same, yesterday, today and forever.
