Habakkuk – Day 11

Habakkuk 2:3

For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

The Thought

In the original Hebrew, this verse is not clear about the subject “it” of the second part. Whether Habakkuk was hearing God say to wait for something or somebody, we don’t really know. The previous verse has obviously been talking about a thing; “the revelation,” but most of us know today that the people of Israel were waiting for their Redeemer to be revealed, and this word from God could be speaking into that. “Though He lingers, wait for Him; He will certainly come and not delay.”

Jesus is the answer to any problem we might be facing. But often we must wait for Him to move, just as the Israelites had to wait centuries for Him to appear. And when He did, He was not at all what they had expected. Many of them rejected Him.

God often answers our prayers in a different way to the way we expect or want, and that can be challenging, and a lesson about trusting Him no matter what.

During those times, we must keep reminding ourselves that He is a God who loves us and wants the best for us, and we must use our times of waiting to get closer to Him in order to discover what He is trying to teach us.

Just like any good earthly father does not always give his children what they ask for immediately. Learning to wait is an essential part of life’s lessons.

Action

Look back on your life and think about times you have prayed for something and didn’t get it at the time, or in the way you expected.

Write a list of specific things you are asking for today. Pray for patience as you wait.
