Gifts & Giving – Day 22

Genesis 3:6

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

The Thought

The word “gave” in this verse is one of the first uses of that verb in the Bible. How sad that it has such negative vibes and results. When we consider gifts and giving as we have been doing all through this month, we usually associate that with good things. But sadly many people have been givers and receivers of bad things too.

Adam received the gift of the fruit without even thinking what God had said about that particular tree and the disastrous results of eating that fruit.

One of the “gifts” of the fruit was wisdom, but sadly it was the world’s wisdom. That wisdom which comes from satan and not the wisdom of God.

Many gifts that people give and receive today have spiritual connections which we don’t realise. There are games that have serious effects on the lives of those who play them. Videos that do the same to those who watch them. There are books which teach ungodly things. Also items of jewellery or ornaments that we could have in our houses which may have been dedicated to a demonic god.

All gifts are not good, no matter how well intentioned the giver may be.

Action

Think today about gifts you have given and ask the Lord if anything was not good for the person you gave it to. Ask Him to purify things if necessary.

Thank Jesus for gifts you have received which have blessed you. Pray that the gifts you may be thinking of giving this month will be good gifts that bless those who receive them.
