Gifts & Giving – Day 13
We live in the west of France. The winter can be too cold, the summer too hot. At the beginning of this year we had too much rain, we could not wait for spring. But then spring was so dry we had to keep watering the garden and we complained!
Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for He has given you the autumn rains because He is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
Back to nature in our thoughts today. Depending on where you are in the world you might appreciate this verse more than others.
We live in a beautiful village near the west coast of France, where the climate is well balanced. But (I feel guilty as I write this) we complain a lot about the weather. The winter can be too cold, and the summer can be too hot. At the beginning of this year we had too much rain, we couldn’t wait for spring to come. But then the spring was so dry we had to keep watering the garden and we complained!
As I write we have just changed the clocks to winter time so we are moaning a bit about the short days! Will we ever be satisfied? And yet there is something nice about closing the curtains and shutters and sitting around the fire on wintry evenings.
Will we ever learn to just appreciate each day as a gift from God. Not just the day, but everything about it, the weather, the work (or lack of) our health, our family and friends.
Many Old Testament verses tell us to rejoice in the Lord, and in Paul’s letter to the Philippians he tells them (and us) “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)
Make a decision today to have a happy day with no complaining but just rejoicing, because Jesus is with you. He knows your needs and He is watching and sending angels to provide for you. Ask Holy Spirit to give you a nudge every time you have a negative thought, so that you can quickly change your point of view and make it a positive thought!
