Gideon – Day 7

Judges 6:13

Why has all this happened to us? … But now the Lord has abandoned us.

The Thought

What a lie coming from the mouth of Gideon!

How often, when we are disappointed or frustrated do we say things that are not true? The Lord promises to never leave us (Hebrews 13:5), and as believers, we must learn to speak Biblical truth.

In the third epistle of John which contains just one very short chapter, we read “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth”. As a parent and grandparent I can identify with John’s joy in this verse.

Walking in the truth is an important daily activity, and has to be practiced. Far too often we are believing lies as did Gideon in our verse today. These lies come from our upbringing, our education or our own reasoning. In Proverbs 3:5 the Lord tells us to not trust our own understanding. It takes discipline to do that, especially when things are going wrong.

Gideon complained that God had left them in a mess. It is easy to blame God, and others for difficult situations, and we as His people must constantly examine our own lives to see if we are walking in the Truth. Remember Jesus’ description of Himself: “I am the way, the truth and the life …” John 14:6

The truth was that the Israelites had turned away from the Lord and worshipped idols. Why would they do that when they knew the amazing things that Jehovah God had done for them?

Action

Pray that the Lord will show you where you are not walking in the truth; where you are believing a lie for whatever reason; because of your upbringing, or because of things you have learned or decided for yourself.

Praise Him who is truth personified, and ask Him to show you The Truth.
