Gideon – Day 3

Judges 6:8-9

This is what the Lord God of Israel says: I brought you out of Egypt. I took you away from slavery. I rescued you from the power of the Egyptians and from the power of those who oppressed you. I forced people out of your way. I gave you their land.

The Thought

Israel had been disobedient, and turned to other gods (Judges 6:10), and Father God was far from pleased with them especially when they cried to Him for mercy (Judges 6:6).

Sometimes we need to be sure of our own obedience before complaining to God. Here, He sent a prophet to reprimand the Israelites, and remind them of all He had already done for them. But where was their obedience?

God had made it so clear in the beginning that they must keep telling the story of what He had done. They must tell their children and their children’s children (Deuteronomy 4:8-9).

Many families would be challenged today if they knew those verses.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that a priest or pastor will teach our children! It is the parents responsibility.

The Israelites would not have been sacrificing to idols if their fathers had continued to tell the stories of what God had done for them in bringing them out of slavery.

Speaking with others about what the Lord has done for us brings encouragement for them and also for ourselves.

Action

Spend some time today thinking of what God has already done for you; in Jesus’ death on the cross, and in answered personal prayers.

Ask Him to help you be more willing to share the stories of His intervention in your family life.

Praise Him that, as He did for the Israelites, He will help you through any difficulties you are experiencing at the moment.
