Gideon – Day 14

Judges 6:31

If Baal is a god, let him defend himself.

The Thought

Gideon did what God asked him to do, but the Bible tells us that he was afraid, so he did it at night. Have there been things in your life that you didn’t really want to do?

It is interesting that the Lord didn’t reprimand Gideon for his fear. Instead He protected him from the towns people who were angry when they discovered what Gideon had done.

I find it surprising that Gideon’s father was not furious with Gideon, after all it was his idol. God must have worked in his father so that he protected his son. I would have expected him to be the one who was angry. Wouldn’t you?

But no. Joash, Gideon’s father saw the whole episode as a spiritual battle and decided to let the different spirits fight it out.

There are many demonic forces in the world today trying to deceive believers and non-believers alike. For example, many people attend relaxation classes using mediation exercises from eastern religions.

We must understand the spirits behind these things. Look up the origins of yoga, and other meditation classes to find the spirits behind them.

The Bible tells us that there is only One True God, He is all powerful, and that Jesus is pleading our cause at His side. What more do we need? (1John 2:1) (Hebrews 8:1)

Action

Pray that you will recognise the voice of God today, and that you will understand the victory that Jesus has won for you. Pray for a true God revelation for those who argue the cause of other gods.

Read what God Himself says about idols. (Deuteronomy 12:1-3, Psalms 78:56-59, Isaiah 41:21-24)

Praise Jesus for the victory over the enemy and that Satan is a defeated foe.
