Surprises – Day 21

Exode 3:2-3

There (on Mount Horeb) the angel of The Lord appeared to Moses in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it did not burn up, so Moses thought; “I will go over and see this strange sight, why the bush does not burn up.”

La Réflexion

Moses had lived a somewhat unusual life up to this point. He was born at a time of oppression of the Israelite nation when Hebrew babies were being killed, just because they were Hebrew. He was placed in a basket and left in the river, to either survive or to die. His mother’s prayer was of course that he would survive. And he did! God had His hand on Moses from before his birth right through to his death at well over a hundred years old!

God’s presence in Moses’s life did not necessarily keep him sinless! The first thing we really know about his adult life was when he killed an Egyptian for beating an Israelite (Exode 2:12). We do not know if his identity as an Israelite caused his reaction, or if it was just that Moses was something of a defender of the weak, or one who was sympathetic with the underdog! But the result was that he fled and became a desert wanderer until a “chance meeting” at a well resulted in his becoming a shepherd for his future father in law.

God is amazing in providing “surprises” for His people.

The verses today are some of the best known of all Moses’s experiences. This event was full of surprises. First was the burning bush which was not being destroyed. Then the angel and the audible voice of God, followed by the message God gave to Moses this runaway shepherd!

Action

Lisez Exodus chapters 2 & 3 today and look for the “surprises”.

Demandez-vous aujourd'hui quelle est votre réaction lorsque vous voyez quelque chose d'inhabituel. Fuyez-vous, l'ignorez-vous ou allez-vous voir ce qui se passe ?
