Followers of Jesus – Day 11

2 Corinthians 8:23

As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honour to Christ.

The Thought

The title of this study The Followers of Jesus, does not refer only to the early disciples, some of whom we have already mentioned. Rather it refers to all of us who know and serve Jesus. If we are doing at least some of what He did when He walked the earth, then we too can call ourselves “followers of Jesus”, and not just believers in Jesus. There is a difference.

In this verse to the Corinthian church, Paul is recommending Titus to the Corinthians, along with other believers (brothers) who would travel to Corinth with Titus. Paul is assuring the Corinthian church that they can trust those who are going to visit them to return to Paul with the offering from them helping the continuation of his work for the Lord.

Paul is the most renowned of the early followers of Jesus. Before we get to the end of this study we’ll look at more of what he wrote. For today let’s stay with Titus. He received his own personal letter from Paul which made its way into the New Testament. Paul left him in charge of the new converts in Crete and the letter included in our Bibles is giving clear instructions.

Action

Read the 3 short chapters written to Titus and ask yourself if your church leaders are living up to Paul’s standards. Pray for them that they might be good leaders representing Jesus amongst their flock.

Ask yourself what the difference is between being a follower of Jesus and a believer in Jesus. Be honest about your response. And pray that Jesus will make you a real follower able to create other followers by your lifestyle and by your words.
