The Fig Tree – Day 17

Many people today are suffering financially because of a year long pandemic. But more people are suffering emotionally and psychologically because of the loneliness, the fear, the stress, seeing loved ones suffer and often watching them die. The 21st century has not started well. Where is the God of love?

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Even if the fig tree does not bloom and the vines have no grapes, even if the olive tree fails to produce and the fields yield no food, even if the sheep pen is empty and the stalls have no cattle — even then, I will be happy with the Lord. I will truly find joy in God, who saves me.

The Thought

The short (just 3 chapters) Old Testament book of Habakkuk is very easy to read. It starts with a complaint to the Lord which sounds as though Habakkuk has been watching a modern day news programme. The world seemed to be so full of evil, and he wanted to know why God isn’t doing anything about it.

God responded with great promises, convincing Habakkuk that “it’s not over till it’s over” and He is still on the throne. Finally the prophet pleaded with the Lord to do again some of the amazing things He did in the past, and the book ends with this determined declaration that no matter what, he will continue to rejoice, because God is still God.

The 21st century has not started well. Where is the God of love?

He who sees everything is watching and when the time is right, He will move. He will repay those who planned the disasters taking place around us. The dishonest ones, the schemers, those serving satan.

Action

Are you asking yourself as you look at the world today “Where is the God of the Bible?” Be encouraged He is still on the throne and will have His way on the earth.
