Esther – Day 31

Esther 9:28

These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city … nor should the memory of these days die out among their descendants.

The Thought

Still today, Jewish families all over the world celebrate this feast of Purim. They remember Esther’s story praising Jehovah for her obedience and boldness. They rejoice that one more time the Jewish nation had been saved from being terminated.

Throughout history there have been heroes and heroines who have obeyed the call of God on their lives and made a stand for truth. Maybe when we get to Heaven we’ll be able to meet some of them.

But the story doesn’t finish there. There is a very short (only 3 verses) 10th chapter which gives us the happy ending. It gives us the reason why Mordecai was so appreciated everywhere.

Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, pre-eminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of the Jews. Esther 10:3

Christians are called to work for the good of others, and speak up for their welfare.

The second commandment in the two great ones which Jesus gave in Matthew 22:37-39 confirms that we should be doing much for others.

Action

Think today about which Biblical heroes and heroines you would like to meet. Imagine the conversations you will have with them in Heaven.

Pray for those in authority today. Pray that your leaders, local and national, christian or not will work for the good of the people and not for their own financial gain or self importance.

Praise God for this short, but important story of Esther and Mordecai. Thank Him for anything you have learned through studying it this month.
