Esther – Day 24

These verses always make me smile! Can you imagine the shame Haman was feeling as he obeyed the command from his king? His pride had taken a great battering, and he had completely misunderstood the situation. Several verses in the Bible speak into this situation. Pride is still a problem.

Esther 6:10-11

“Go at once” the king commanded Haman. “Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.” So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honour!”

The Thought

• Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
• But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. 2 Chronicles 26:16
• The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted, and they will be humbled. Isaiah 2:12
• God opposes the proud, but shows favour to the humble. James 4:6

Many politicians and world leaders of our day suffer from pride, and many of the people they represent suffer because of the pride of those leaders too. Too many have the “Haman problem”; the position they have risen to has gone to their heads, and they are no longer the humble people they were, wanting to represent their people, and improve situations where necessary.

Action

Pray today for the leaders and politicians of your country, that those who need to be less proud will see their faults and humble themselves before the Lord, before it is too late.

Ask Jesus to forgive you for any times you have been proud of your own achievements.

Thank Him that He took your pride to the cross so that you can be free from its effect today.
