Esther – Day 19

Esther 5:4-6

“If it pleases the king,” replied Esther, “let the king, together with Haman, come today to a banquet I have prepared for him.” … So the king and Haman went to the banquet Esther had prepared. As they were drinking wine, the king asked Esther, “Now what is your petition? It will be given you. And what is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted.”

The Thought

What a wise answer Esther gave. She was really trying to arouse the King’s imagination, and also getting him to repeat his promise to her of what she could have if she asked.

God has made amazing promises for each of us, and the Bible gives us several examples of this.

Solomon asked for wisdom when he became king in place of his father David. Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? 1 Kings 3:9

One of the verses we looked at last month tells us If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

The book of proverbs alone has 55 verses concerning wisdom. (Maybe we should do a study on that one day!)

Esther, inspired by the Lord, and taught well by Mordecai, showed great wisdom in her dealings with the king at this dramatic moment in time.

Action

Can you think of a time when you have surprised yourself with a wise answer?

Praise God that His wisdom is available for us if we ask.

Pray today for any situation (your own or someone else’s) that needs a wise solution.

Thank the Lord that He is there, always ready to help, and has all the answers.
