Separation – Day 17

Ephesians 4:18

They (unbelievers) are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

The Thought

Following a description of the church as a body, Paul has hard things to say about those in the Ephesian church who have fallen into sin. He makes it clear that we often offend the Lord because we say things when we don’t fully understand what is happening in the spiritual realm or the life of someone we are criticising.

Unfortunately many christians sin by what they say. It is too easy to speak half truths or to talk about something, or someone when we only know half the story. Most of us have been guilty of that.

I read recently about a prophet who had a vision of the archangel Michael who was pulling down strongholds over USA. Each time he destroyed one of the strongholds, another sprang up!! The man asked Michael why this happened, and Michael’s response shocked him: “Because of the mouths of men!”

We must remember that ALL sin separates us from God (the verse today) and also that Jesus told the accusers of a woman caught in adultery that the one who was without sin could throw the first stone!! (John 8:7).

Before we declare that others are “separated” from the Lord because of their sin, we must be sure that we are not in that position ourselves. We must watch what we say.

Action

Pray for a spirit of wisdom and revelation for yourself about what you say, and how you think today (Ephesians 4:15).

Pray that the leaders in your church will not be darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts (Ephesians 4:18).
