Psalm 23 – Day 29

Psalm 23:6

… and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The Thought

The first image that this verse brings to mind for me is how uncomfortable it would be living in a large stone cathedral. Uncomfortable seating, stone pillars, emptiness, and yet I know I have been in buildings like that and felt the presence of the Lord very strongly. But that doesn’t mean I want to sleep there for the rest of my days.

The fact is that churches, temples, cathedrals, and chapels, are not what David is referring to here. The temple of the Lord is just His presence. We want, and we need, to know this presence of the Lord continually just as David did.

The temple is also us! You and me! God’s children on the earth. In 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Paul tells the church there that they are God’s temple on the earth.

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

Praise God today for that reality. Remind yourself throughout the day that God lives in you as His individual temple. Remember too that as we all meet up with other believers, that forms another larger part of His body on the earth.

As David concluded his psalm he wanted to be sure that He would be in communion with his God 24/7. He was declaring the truth of that.

Action

Ask yourself if it is your prayer today to live in the house of the Lord forever. Are there places you go, things you do, conversations you have that make you hope God isn’t the all seeing, all hearing, all knowing God that He is?

No need to get upset, remember His love, and His forgiveness shown to us in the cross of Jesus.

Rejoice that God picks you up when you fall, and dances with you when you succeed.
