Psalm 23 – Day 20

David suggests that we could be eating with our enemies, but we must take note that it was God who had prepared the table for him. David was never over-concerned about the enemy, he knew who was the more powerful force. Resist the devil, standing firm in the faith.

Psalm 23:5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

The Thought

David’s suggestion that we could be eating with our enemies might be a disturbing one, but we must take note that it was God who had “prepared the table for him”. David was never over-concerned about the enemy, he knew who was the more powerful force.

This verse suggests that the enemy is looking on while David enjoys the feast. The sad truth is that David’s own son, Absalom, became an enemy fighting his father for the crown. Absalom’s full story is in 2 Samuel chapters 13-18.

The apostle Peter warns us to be alert, because “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” 1 Peter 5:8. The enemy of mankind, who tempted Eve in Eden, is still on the prowl. He will not admit defeat until Jesus returns for the final victory at the end of time as we know it.

Sadly satan works through others to try to derail God’s children from their life’s purpose. He will not win. Peter goes on to tell us to “resist him, standing firm in the faith” 1 Peter 5:9. It is important to remember that behind every battle there is a spiritual enemy.

We read above that Peter advises us to resist him, but Paul has a different approach quoting directly from Proverbs 25:21-22 he tells us “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Romans 12:20

Action

Praise God for His protection today and thank Him that He is always there. Pray for those you know who are struggling with life situations.

Praise God too that nothing that happens to you today will surprise Him.

Ask Him to help you treat every problem as an opportunity for growth in your faith.
