A Living Sacrifice – Day 8

Romans 12:4-5

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

The Thought

People not having the same function is true of every organisation, whether it be family, business, social group, or sport. The church is no different to any or all of these. The main idea behind most organisations is that we work together for the good of all. Sadly this idea has been abused in much of the world throughout history and right up to the present day in every section of society, even the church.

New church movements have often begun because of disagreements about who should lead which activity, or because of doctrine. Or because somebody thinks they can do better than the person in charge.

The last phrase in our verse today reminds us that each of us is a part of the church for the common good. We are not there to criticise, we are not there to take charge. Unless of course we really do have that responsibility. But the suggestion in this verse is that we work as a group. Each one of us blessing the others to do what they are called to do. Sometimes having to stay in a church group where you are not over happy is a call to be a Living Sacrifice. To pray for the others and constantly listen to what Holy Spirit is saying.

There are no sleeping partners.

Pray for wisdom in your church group, that those who are called to lead will do so in the way God wants. Pray that Jesus alone will be their inspiration.

Ask yourself if you are doing what The Lord wants you to do in your church community. Are you using your gifts for Him, and for the good of all?

If you are a member of a large community pray for those in charge. Pray that they would be constantly in touch with Father God and that Holy Spirit would inspire every decision.
