Joy – Day 2

Psalm 100:1-3

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before Him with Joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God.

The Thought

Joy is a good sentiment to pray for at this time of year, when many of us get stressed about buying gifts for those we care for, and all the preparations we feel are necessary for the season we are in. Sometimes, at the beginning or in the middle of the arrangements it is important to stop and take a breath. Remember the reason for the season.

Jesus is Lord, and is still the reason for the season. In fact He is the reason for every season. Our calendars and our holiday seasons were all created around the life of Jesus! His birth, and His death, etc.

This wonderful psalm of praise which consists of only five verses is appropriate for any season, and for any day of the year. (Even every day of the year!)

Action

Read Psalm 100 in different versions of The Bible, and allow yourself to feel the emotions mentioned there. Joy, gladness, belonging, thanksgiving, praise. Be grateful that God is faithful through all generations (verse 5).

Give thanks for those generations who went before you, whether you knew them or not and pray today for the generations following you. That they would be faithful to Jesus the Saviour of the world.

Pray (not just for those you know personally) for the next generation of young people today who have so many distractions, and so many reasons to not believe in our faithful Saviour. Ask God to reveal His truth to them.

Verse 3 declares that “we are His”! Ask yourself today what that means. What difference does it make to you and consequently to those around you that you belong to Jesus?
