James – Day 10

James 2:5 & 9

Listen my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised to those who love him?
But if you show favouritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as law-breakers.

The Thought

God has no favourites and neither should we. But sadly, we live in a world where no one is equal. Most things are decided by who you know, where you were educated, your political preferences, who likes you, who doesn’t, or the size of your bank account.

Our attitudes to others, particularly among the young today are very much affected by which programmes we watch on TV and if we have seen the latest films on Netflix. The “poor in the eyes of the world” from the verses above are those who don’t think like that. Those for whom it is not essential to have the latest “app” on their portable phone, and for whom personal relationships are more important.

How different things will be once we get to Heaven. In Heaven everyone is the same, no-one poor, no-one sick, no-one better educated. No-one higher ranking than anyone else, and everyone loved by everyone!

How can we bring Heaven to earth? That’s what we pray for isn’t it? “Thy will be done on earth as in Heaven”!

Action

Pray for that today.

Praise God that what we see on earth is not “real” life. Thank Him for Heaven where His will is done all the time. Praise Him that His church is beginning to understand.

Take time to read the second chapter of James, and allow yourself to be challenged.

Praise Him for the prospect of Heaven on earth, and ask Him how you can help in that today.
