Idols – Day 15

Leviticus 26:30

I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you.

The Thought

This does not sound like the loving God I heard about in Sunday school, and that I know from experience exists today! We must look at Bible verses in context, and this chapter begins with a very clear command. Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone… (Leviticus 26:1).

In the Amplified version of the Bible we get an uglier picture of what this verse means:- I will destroy your high places [devoted to idolatrous worship], and cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies upon the [crushed] bodies of your idols, and My soul will detest you [with deep and unutterable loathing].

The name Leviticus means the book of the Levites. Basically it was written as a rule book for the priests (Levites) to teach the people of God all they would need to know in order to live in their land of promise. He was preparing them for their future.

Action

Look back on your life again today and notice the things of the past which prepared you for what you are doing today. Can you see any links? Was your future always clear? Are you surprised at where you are now, when you think back to what your dreams and plans were during your teenage years?

Praise God for the road He has taken you on, and thank Him for all you have learned. Pray for the generations following on, that the children in your family will know the Lord and follow Him, being protected by Him from the evil influences of this world.

The book of proverbs was written by Solomon as good advice for the generation which would follow him, read some of that advice today while praying for the next generation.
