Grace – Day 9

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then approach God’s throne of Grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find Grace to help us in our time of need.

The Thought

In Old Testament times people went to the priest for healing, not the doctor as we do today. The Old Testament book of Leviticus is full of advice for the priests about how to pray for different diseases, and the actions to be taken by the one who is suffering.

But Jesus’s death and resurrection made that unnecessary the moment He opened the way for each of us to have direct access to Father God’s throne. Jesus is now our “High Priest”, and we have the freedom to go to Him at any time. He never sleeps!

Can you imagine a “throne of Grace”? It’s a spiritual place that many of us go when we are worried or upset, or as this verse says “at a time of need”. It is a spiritual place we go to with hope for a change in a situation, our own, or that of someone for whom we are praying.

Jesus always hears our prayers. That is His grace. Sometimes the answer and response is immediate. Sometimes it will take time. Often there are things to learn along the way, that is why we often have to wait.

Grace is the gift we need when we have a problem and are waiting, sometimes impatiently, for the response. We must always remember that God’s grace is enough, even to help us through the waiting time when our frustrations are making us impatient.

Action

Ask Jesus today to give you Grace to be patient regarding your unanswered prayers.

Ask Him to show you what you need to be learning through the waiting time.

Pray for those you know who are disappointed with God because they didn’t get what they asked for. Thank Him that His plans and purposes are so much bigger and better than ours.
